Yeast Genetics

Researching Yeast genetics from Berlin Airport Hotel

I work as a researcher in genetics for the University. I have done the job for many years and feel confident about the research I do. I often have to travel as part of my job, and give lectures, not just in the United Kingdom but throughout the world. Last month I was told that I would be travelling to Berlin to give a lecture on the subject of Yeast genetics. Although I wasn’t informed until the last minute that the subject would be Yeast genetics. So I was affectively travelling to this meeting with little or no knowledge of the subject, im hindsight i could have researched some information on sites such as http://www.hiberlin.de/. I specialise in the subject of human genetics and yeast genetics is very different.

I packed my bags and headed for the airport, passport and tickets in hand I boarded the plane. I tried to huck my laptop up on the plane to do research, but due to the planes on board frequency this was an impossibility. I knew that I was unable to do any research until I landed at Berlin.

Hotel

On landing, I only had hand luggage so I headed straight for my hotel. I had booked into the Hotel Berlin which was a stones throw from the airport. When I arrived, I found that the hotels name was actually Airport Hotel Berlin Schöenfeld. The room was lovely it overlooked the city of Berlin, the view from the balcony was breathtaking.

I sat on the balcony of the Hotel Berlin, whilst taking in the views I logged onto my computer, and typed in to research for information on Yeast genetics. I was astonished to find that there was little on the subject, but what I did find is that Yeast is simply a fungi. There is a variety of different fungi, some of which are served in some Berlin restaurants, and all of these fungi have a different phase on the cycle of life.

Yeast is probably best known for its use in food and drink, and most people when mentioning the word ‘yeast’ would associate it with either bread or beer. It is also a good food which is rich in protein and a good source of vitamin B.

Yeast is also known to be the cause of some medical complaints, such as thrush, thrush can be found in both adults and very young children.

The cycle of yeast starts with a single cell, this cell then buds and grows to more or less the same size as the parent cell, then the nucleus separates the two cells, these two cells then divide into unbudded cells and the cycle begins again.

I used all the information, which I had gathered from my Airport Hotel Berlin Schönefeld in my lecture. My lecture went well and I returned back to the United Kingdom to gather more research on Yeast genetics, which would prepare me for my next lecture in Berlin. When I go there again I will definitely be using the Hotel Berlin during my stay.
